What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is the first and only FDA-approved prescription product that temporarily improves the appearance of both moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and moderate to severe crow’s feet in adults.

BOTOX® Cosmetic works beneath the surface

Wrinkles result from a combination of many factors. It's not just about cellular changes, collagen depletion, or damage caused by free radicals. When you frown or concentrate, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. And when you squint, the muscles around your eyes contract and cause crow's feet.

BOTOX® Cosmetic works beneath the skin's surface and targets the underlying muscle activity that causes frown lines and crow's feet to form over time.

Your doctor will inject BOTOX® Cosmetic into the muscles that cause frown lines and crow's feet lines, temporarily reducing the activity of those muscles. The result is a reduction in the appearance of those lines.

Will BOTOX® Cosmetic make me look fake?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a technique-sensitive treatment. You should not lose the ability to show expression when you are treated by someone who is licensed, trained and a medical expert in facial anatomy. It is important to talk to your provider about the results you want from treatment as well as any precautions and risks from the procedure.

Does it hurt?

Some patients report that being injected with BOTOX® Cosmetic feels like a pinch. Your provider may use ice to numb the treatment area. If you are concerned about discomfort, your provider may apply a topical numbing cream before administering your treatment.

What should I tell my doctor?

Tell your doctor about all medications you take, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Let your doctor know if you have been treated with a botulinum toxin product in the last four months and whether you experienced any allergies or side effects. Tell your doctor about your medical conditions, including any muscle or nerve conditions such as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome. Tell your doctor if you have had any swallowing or breathing problems in the past.

Tell your doctor if you have had surgery on your face or plan to do so. Your doctor should also be told if you have weakness in your forehead muscles, have trouble raising your eyebrows, or have drooping eyelids.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant or if you are nursing or plan to nurse.

How long does the treatment take?

Your doctor will discuss your treatment goals and perform a facial analysis to determine the appropriate treatment areas for you. The actual injection process takes about 10 minutes.

For the crow’s feet area

, your doctor will determine how many injection sites needed.

For the frown lines area

, your doctor will determine how many injection sites needed.

After your treatment, you can resume your day. There is minimal downtime and your doctor may give you specific aftercare instructions.

Please see the Important Safety Information including Boxed Warning and Medication Guide and talk to your doctor.

Get to know Dysport

Prescription Dysport is an injection used to temporarily improve the look of your moderate to severe frown lines without changing the look of your whole face. The untreated facial muscles still work normally, allowing you to freely show facial expressions, such as smiling, in untreated areas. Get to know more about Dysport, including how it works and what to understand before you start treatment.

Frown line causes and treatment

You work out, eat right, and take care of your skin. Of course, cosmetic creams and lotions will always have their place in your regimen—but for moderate to severe frown lines, you may want prescription treatment.

Get the facts about what causes frown lines, then see what you can do to help temporarily improve their appearance.

The cause of frown lines

Frown lines are caused by a number of factors. Over time, repeated movement of the facial skin by the brow muscles forms lines between the eyebrows. Frown lines are "dynamic"—they happen because of the way a person's face moves.

Frown lines and aging

Contrary to popular belief, frown lines are not always caused by age. Age is a factor, but repeated facial movements, such as frowning or squinting, can also create frown lines, which means they may develop even in younger adults.

How Dysport® can help

Prescription Dysport temporarily improves the look of your moderate to severe frown lines without changing the look of your whole face. The untreated facial muscles still work normally, allowing you to freely show facial expressions. So now your eyes will tell your story, instead of revealing the lines between them.

"Frown lines were never a part of my plan."

JUVÉDERM Radiesse Restylane

Dermal fillers (hyaluronic acid) help to restore volume and fullness to the skin and correct mild to moderate facial wrinkles and folds such as the folds between your nose and mouth. Nerve blocks and local numbing are injected for patient comfort, and usually wear off within a few hours.

Usually, there are no pre- or post-op medications or care required, however, this should be determined by your physician.

On average, dermal fillers last six to nine months. Prices vary between brands and the amount of filler required. Often, the pharmaceutical companies offer rebates throughout the year. We use Restylane, Radiesse, and Perlane at our clinic. Your doctor will let you know which would be best for your specific need. In our office, this procedure is performed only by our doctors.

What is hyaluronic acid (HA)?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance found on your skin. As you age, you start to lose HA, which causes the skin to lose structure and volume, contributing to the formation of wrinkles and folds.

JUVÉDERM® XC is the first and only non-surgical hyaluronic acid (HA) filler FDA-approved to instantly smooth moderate to severe wrinkles around your nose and mouth for up to one year with optimal treatment.

A more youthful profile

Starts with the apples of your cheeks

As you age, it's not just about lines and wrinkles. Your cheeks can lose volume and skin may begin to sag. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC is the first and only FDA-approved injectable gel to instantly add volume to your cheek area to correct age-related volume loss in adults over the age of 21. It can provide you contour and a subtle lift for up to two years with optimal treatment. Instant, natural-looking results.

Non-surgical.The injection process can be performed during a brief office visit.

Contains lidocaine to help improve comfort during treatment.

LATISSE® is a prescription treatment for hypotrichosis (inadequate or not enough lashes) to grow eyelashes longer, fuller, darker.

Before and After

Individual results may vary. The lashes displayed are unretouched, without mascara. If you stop using LATISSE®, your eyelashes are expected to return to their previous appearance over several weeks to months. Results may vary from eye to eye. There may be differences in eyelash length, thickness, fullness, pigmentation (darkness), number of eyelash hairs or the direction of eyelashes. If you experience any of these variations in your lashes, they will usually go away once you stop using LATISSE®.

The Aging Process

Aging skin loses natural support structures that keep skin supple and youthful. As the years go by, collagen and elastin diminish within the skin, and this can result in wrinkles and creases.

RADIESSE®: It Just Gets Better®

RADIESSE is a wrinkle filler used to plump the skin. RADIESSE is injected through a small needle and placed under the skin. Immediately, this filler works to add volume under the skin and over time, the benefits of RADIESSE continue by naturally stimulating your body's own natural collagen. The natural results have been shown to last a year or more in many patients, making the treatment results both immediate and long lasting.

Mechanism of Action

RADIESSE is comprised of Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA)microspheres suspended in an aqueous gel carrier to produce its own natural collagen. Once injected, it provides immediate volume and correction but continues to work by stimulating the body. Over time, the gel is absorbed and the body metabolizes the CaHA microspheres leaving behind only your own natural collagen.

Why choose RADIESSE?

  • • RADIESSE immediately replenishes lost volume and stimulates the production of your own natural collagen with results that can last a year or more in many patients.
  • • Over time, the gel is absorbed and the body metabolizes the CaHA microspheres leaving behind only your own natural collagen.
  • • RADIESSE is clinically proven to last a year or more in many patients
  • • RADIESSE provides results with high patient satisfaction
  • • RADIESSE is FDA approved to mix with lidocaine, an anesthetic, to significantly reduce injection-related pain

RADIESSE is a viable option to help provide a long-lasting natural look while immediately smoothing wrinkles. Consult with your Physician to get the most effective injectable filler for your needs.

The Restylane family of products

Restylane, Restylane-L®, Restylane® Silk, Perlane®, and Perlane-L® are all members of the Restylane family of products. Each is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid that is specifically formulated to act like your body's own naturally produced hyaluronic acid, helping to instantly, visibly reduce moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds or add fullness to your lips (Restylane, Restylane-L and Restylane Silk only) in patients over 21.

The Restylane family of products instantly adds volume to help restore youthful contours, so you'll see results immediately following your treatment.

The Restylane family of products can be used to add volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds or laugh lines), the area just below the nose and above the upper lip; the corners of the mouth; and marionette lines-the area that extends downward from the corners of the mouth to the jawline.

Achieve a more youthful-looking you

It's a part of life-our skin changes as we age. It becomes thinner, loses fat, and no longer looks as plump and smooth as it once did. And how your skin ages will depend on a variety of factors including your lifestyle, diet, heredity, and personal habits. But the Restylane family of products may be able to help.

What happens as we age?

1.Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps provide fullness and elasticity

2.Hyaluronic acid diminishes as we age, causing skin to lose volume, while increasing the chances for wrinkles and folds to appear

Restylane injectable gel is the world's most studied wrinkle filler with more than a decade of use. Restylane has been used in more than 15 million treatments in more than 65 countries worldwide. Products in the Restylane family have well-defined safety profiles and are approved for the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds).

Who should not use Restylane and Perlane?

The Restylane family of products should not be used by people who:

  • • are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 18 years for nasolabial folds and under 22 years for lips (Restylane, Restylane-L and Restylane Silk only).
  • • have recently used drugs that thin the blood or prevent clotting
  • • have had previous bad allergies, particularly to microorganisms known as gram-positive bacteria
  • • have serious allergies to drugs that have previously required in-hospital treatment
  • • have bleeding disorders
  • • have a known allergy to lidocaine, if using Restylane-L, Restylane Silk, or Perlane-L

Consult with your Physician to see which injectables will be the most benefical for you.

KTP laser for small facial veins and sun spots

KTP laser targets hemoglobin and melanin found in the skin. Normal skin does not absorb the light frequency very well, making this an excellent treatment choice to help remove tiny facial veins, brown sun spots and freckles.

The treated areas have generally healed and disappeared within a week’s time. There may be some pink discoloration in its place for a week or two but it does go away leaving a very nice cosmetic result. Makeup may be used to cover the discoloration while it heals.

Because the procedure may be uncomfortable for some people, we offer an anesthetic cream that can be purchased prior to the day of the procedure. Call for a free cosmetic consultation to gain details on your specific treatment requirements and price.

KTP laser treatment

Lasers can be used for the treatment of various dermatological conditions depending on the wavelength, pulse characteristics, and fluence (energy output) of the laser.

The following skin disorders may be treated with KTP lasers using an US Federal Drug Agency (FDA)-approved machine, such as Aura™ KTP laser (Laserscope Inc., California, USA).

KTP laser is useful in the treatment of superficial hemangiomas and a variety of acquired cutaneous vascular lesions, including telangiectasis, cherry angiomas and poikiloderma of Civatte.

KTP lasers are particularly effective for freckles, pigmentation (melasma), lentigos and removal of raised spots such as seborrhoeic keratoses, dermatosis papulosa nigra and skin tags.

It is important that the correct diagnosis has been made prior to treatment with KTP lasers, particularly when pigmented lesions are targeted, to avoid mistreatment of skin cancer such as melanoma.

The patient should wear eye protection, consisting of an opaque covering or goggles, throughout treatment.

Treatment with the KTP laser consists of placing a hand piece against the surface of the skin and activating the laser. Many patients describe each pulse to feel like the snapping of a rubber band against the skin.

Topical anaesthetic may be applied to the area, but is not usually necessary.

Immediately following treatment, an ice pack may be applied to soothe the treated area.

Care should be taken in the first few days following treatment to avoid scrubbing the area, and/or use of abrasive skin cleansers.

A bandage or patch may help to prevent abrasion of the treated area.

During the course of treatment patients should protect the area from sun exposure to reduce the risk of postinflammatory pigmentation.

After treatment, loose clothing should be worn to avoid rubbing, the treated area should not exposed. Swimming, saunas, hot baths and contact sports should be avoided until the treated area is healed.

Check with your Dermatologist for recommendations, diagnosis and treatment.

Chemical Peels

Modern Approach to Exfoliation

Chemoexfoliation from GLYTONE by ENERPEEL® utilizes unique acid solutions for specific skin concerns. Our advanced peel systems are characterized by a patented technology that delivers optimal outcomes reducing the usual discomfort and social downtime associated with other peels.

Regular cell turnover and exfoliation is important to healthy skin. With chronological aging, as well as exposure to environmental damage (including UV rays), our desquamation slows. This can lead to a buildup of dead surface cells, followed by an appearance of dull complexion, and compromised skin barrier function. Chemical peels (such as GLYTONE by ENERPEEL®) help to accelerate exfoliation revealing even and radiant complexion.

Chemoexfoliation from GLYTONE by ENERPEEL® utilizes unique acid solutions for specific skin concerns. Our advanced peel systems are characterized by a patented technology that delivers optimal outcomes reducing the usual discomfort and social downtime associated with other peels. Let your skin care professional customize peel treatments from a menu of GLYTONE by ENERPEEL® systems.

What can be expected with a procedure?

A peel procedure should take around 20 minutes depending on the type of peel you are having and the number of layers applied. During the procedure it is possible to experience a mild tingling, itching and heating sensation. These are completely normal and are temporary. After neutralization, these symptoms should subside. Follow post-peel care regimens to experience the benefits of the peel.

Every peel procedure will cause some degree of flaking or peeling with varying amounts of redness post-procedure. The degree and duration of flaking, peeling and redness are dependent upon the acid strength and type. The day after your procedure you may start to feel skin tightness. During the next 7 to 14 days flaking and/or peeling may occur. If you do not experience any flaking or peeling, it does not mean that you will not achieve the optimal results provided by GLYTONE by ENERPEEL® Peel systems. All peel procedures will cause sensitivity to heat and sun for several days. It is critical to the success of the peel that you comply with post procedure care requirements.

Before & After

When it comes to dealing with leg veins, it is critical that you consult with knowledgeable, experienced doctors. The correct evaluation, assessment and plan are a critical part in the success of treating leg veins. Sclerodex is a FDA approved sclerosant used during the treatment.

Sclerotherapy is considered cosmetic, and is not covered by insurance. Depending on the size of the vessel treated, most patients do not find the injections very painful.

Sclerodex is an extremely safe solution with very low incidence of complication. Side effects can include temporary hyperpigmentation and other side effects such as scarring, ulceration or infection may occur (but are rare). This treatment is performed by Dr. Tho Nguyen.

Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to eliminate spider veins. Sclerotherapy involves an injection of a solution (generally a salt solution) directly into the vein. The solution irritates the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to swell and stick together, and the blood to clot. Over time, the vessel turns into scar tissue that fades from view.

Sclerotherapy is a proven procedure that has been in use since the 1930s.

Prior to sclerotherapy, you will have an initial consultation with a dermatologist or vascular medicine specialist who will decide if you're a good candidate for the procedure.

The number of veins injected in one session depends on the size and location of the veins, as well as the general medical condition of the patient.

Sclerotherapy is performed in the doctor's office by a dermatologist or a surgeon and requires that you do not do any aerobic activity for a few days after the procedure.

What Happens After Sclerotherapy

After sclerotherapy you will be able to drive yourself home and resume your regular daily activities. Walking is encouraged.

You will be instructed to wear support hosiery to "compress" the treated vessels. If you have compression hosiery from previous treatments, you are encouraged to bring them with you to be certain they still have adequate compression. Department store support stockings will not be adequate if a heavy compression stocking is needed. Your doctor's office can recommend where to purchase heavy compression stockings.

Also, you should avoid the following for 48 hours after treatment:

  • •Hot baths
  • •Hot compresses
  • •Whirlpools or saunas
  • •Direct exposure to sunlight

Sclerotherapy Effectiveness

Studies have shown that as many as 50%-80% of injected veins may be eliminated with each session of sclerotherapy. Less than 10% of the people who have sclerotherapy do not respond to the injections at all. In these instances, different solutions can be tried. Although this procedure works for most patients, there are no guarantees for success.

In general, spider veins respond in three to six weeks, and larger veins respond in three to four months. If the veins respond to the treatment, they will not reappear. However, new veins may appear at the same rate as before. If needed, you may return for injections.

Before and After Sclerotherapy

Tattoo removal

Tattoo removal has been performed with various tools during the history of tattooing. While tattoos were once considered permanent, it is now possible to remove them with treatments, fully or partially.

Before the development of laser tattoo removal methods, commons techniques included dermabrasion, TCA (Trichloroacetic acid, an acid that removes the top layers of skin, reaching as deep as the layer in which the tattoo ink resides), salabrasion (scrubbing the skin with salt), cryosurgery and excision which is sometimes still used along with skin grafts for larger tattoos.

Tattoo removal by laser was performed with continuous-wave lasers initially, and later with Q-switched lasers, which became commercially available in the early 1990s. Today, "laser tattoo removal" usually refers to the non-invasive removal of tattoo pigments using Q-switched lasers. Typically, black and darker-colored inks can be removed more completely.

A poll conducted in January 2012 by Harris Interactive reported that 1 in 7 (14%) of the 21% of American adults who have a tattoo regret getting one. Of those polled, the patients who regretted their tattoos typically obtained their tattoos in their late teens or early twenties, and were evenly distributed by gender. Among those seeking removals, more than half reported that they "suffered embarrassment". A new job, problems with clothes, and a significant life event were also commonly cited as motivations.

Removal Method

Tattoo removal is most commonly performed using lasers that break down the ink particles in the tattoo. The broken-down ink is then absorbed by the body, mimicking the natural fading that time or sun exposure would create.

All tattoo pigments have specific light absorption spectra. Certain tattoo pigments, such as yellows, greens and fluorescent inks are more challenging to treat than darker blacks and blues, because they have absorption spectra that fall outside or on the edge of the emission spectra available in the tattoo removal laser. Recent pastel colored inks contain high concentrations of titanium dioxide which is highly reflective. Consequently, such inks are difficult to remove since they reflect a significant amount of the incident light energy out of the skin.

Tattoo removal requires multiple treatments spaced between 4-8 weeks apart. Each session, some but not all of the tattoo pigment particles are effectively fragmented, and the body removes the smallest fragments over the course of several weeks.

The result is that the tattoo is lightened over time. Remaining large particles of tattoo pigment are then targeted at subsequent treatment sessions, causing further lightening. The number of sessions and spacing between treatments depends on various parameters, including the area of the body treated and skin color. Tattoos located on the extremities, such as the ankle, generally take longest.

Laser tattoo removal is uncomfortable - many patients say it is worse than getting the tattoo on, topical numbing or lidocaine injections may be used to lessen the discomfort.

Coolsculpting by Zeltiq

Shape what you see without surgery or downtime

The CoolSculpting procedure is the only FDA-cleared, non-surgical fat reduction treatment that uses controlled cooling to eliminate stubborn fat that resists all efforts through diet and exercise. The results are proven, noticeable, and lasting, so you'll look great from every angle.

Freeze away fat?

The idea that cold can selectively affect fat led to the innovative cooling process developed by scientists at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School.

CoolSculpting technology safely delivers precisely controlled cooling to gently and effectively target the fat cells underneath the skin. The treated fat cells are crystallized (frozen), then die. Over time, your body naturally processes the fat and eliminates these dead cells.

After you and your physician select the area(s) to be treated, the device is positioned on your body and controlled cooling is applied. During your procedure, feel free to read, check email, or even take a nap.

Reshape your body

You can reduce fat on multiple areas of your body with the CoolSculpting procedure, and additional sessions may further enhance your results. Your provider will help you create an individualized treatment plan tailored just for you.

After your coolsculpting session

The CoolSculpting fat freezing procedure is completely non-surgical, so you can typically return to normal activities immediately.

Proven results without surgery

Renowned Harvard University scientists, Dieter Manstein, MD and R. Rox Anderson, MD, observed that some children got dimples due to eating popsicles. The idea that cold can selectively affect and eliminate fat cells without damaging the skin or surrounding tissue was the insight behind Cryolipolysis®, the proven science on which the CoolSculpting procedure is based.

The CoolSculpting procedure is:

  • • FDA-cleared
  • • Non-surgical
  • • Safe and effective

The difference between fat reduction and weight loss

It's a common misconception that weight loss and fat reduction are the same thing. They're not. When we lose weight, our fat cells become smaller, but the number of fat cells remains the same. When we gain weight, those fat cells become larger again. However, the CoolSculpting procedure actually reduces the number of fat cells in the treated areas. Obviously, fat cells that are no longer there can't get bigger.

And unlike weight loss surgery or other non-surgical weight loss procedures, results from the CoolSculpting procedure are lasting because once the fat cells are eliminated, they're gone for good. Whether or not you weigh less, you'll be thinner and your clothes will fit better, feel better, and look better.

When you lose weight, your fat cells become smaller, but the number of fat cells stays the same. When you gain weight, your fat cells become larger again. After the Coolsculpting procedure, the treated areas actually have fewer fat cells. And unlike what happenes with other Procedures, there's no change in fat cell distribution in untreated areas.

Once it's gone, it's gone for good

The results from some diets and fat reduction treatments may leave you swinging back and forth between "before" and "after" versions of yourself. But the CoolSculpting procedure is non-surgical, safe, effective, and best of all, the results are long-term. So take a good, long look at yourself.

Ultherapy is the only FDA-cleared procedure to non-invasively lift the eyebrow, neck and under- chin.

Now, FDA-cleared to improve décolletage lines and wrinkles!

Ultherapy Results

Safe Ultrasound. No Surgery.

Ultrasound imaging allows doctors to see where the treatment energy will be delivered.

Ultherapy harnesses the power of ultrasound to transform the brow, chin, neck and chest. Ultrasound, of course, has been used safely throughout the medical field for more than 50 years—and Ultherapy has been established as safe and effective in clinical studies and in more than 350,000 treatments worldwide.

Ultherapy relies on ultrasound therapy to deliver its collagen-boosting treatment. It also incorporates traditional ultrasound imaging, which allows practitioners to see the layers of tissue they are treating, ensuring the treatment energy is delivered to where it will be most beneficial.

No Toxins or Needles

Ultherapy stimulates collagen growth in the skin tissue at three different layers. Unlike lasers, radio frequency, surgery and other technologies, non-surgical Ultherapy bypasses the surface of the skin to deliver the right amount of ultrasound energy at the right depths and the right temperature. This energy triggers a natural response under the skin, jumpstarting the regenerative process that produces fresh, new collagen.

Before Your Treatment

Your practitioner can answer any questions you have about the procedure before your treatment. The first thing you will want to do is schedule a one-on-one consultation with an Ultherapy provider. During this session, your practitioner will address your concerns, assess your skin and determine if you are a candidate for the treatment. Once you book your Ultherapy® procedure, you won't need to follow any special preparations or skincare regimens in advance of the treatment.

During Your Treatment

After cleansing the skin and identifying the specific areas to be treated, your Ultherapy practitioner will apply the ultrasound gel and place the smooth treatment applicator against your skin. Next, your provider will use Ultherapy's ultrasound imaging to first see deep within the skin to determine optimal placement of the treatment energy, and then deliver the focused ultrasound energy beneath the skin's surface. During the treatment delivery, you will feel tiny amounts of energy being deposited to precise depths, indicating that the collagen-building process has been initiated.

After Your Treatment

With Ultherapy, there is no downtime! You can return to your normal activities immediately after your procedure without any post-treatment restrictions or requirements. Your skin might appear flushed at first, but the redness should disappear within a few hours. Some patients experience slight swelling, tingling or tenderness to the touch, but these are mild and temporary in nature.

The chilled compression tip continually cools and compresses the epidermis before, during and after the treatment

What is Hair Removal?

Hair removal is among the most common aesthetic concerns worldwide and concerns both men and women.

Treatment Options

There are several options available for hair removal, and many over the counter options, although most are not permanent. Permanent hair reduction can only be achieved through the application of energy directly to the hair follicle.

The removal or permanent reduction of unwanted hair by laser light depends on the scientific principle of selective photo-thermolysis. When the correct wavelength of laser light is applied to hair in the treatment area, melanin in the hair absorbs the light, which is converted into heat energy. Buildup of thermal energy causes the destruction of hair follicles as well as associated stem cells and dermal papillae, while the surrounding skin is undamaged. Some follicles will only be damaged or may regrow, so numerous treatments are required to reduce or eliminate unwanted hair effectively for a persistent result.

Many devices are limited in their utility because the different parameters cannot be adjusted independently (if at all). Understandably, treatment of darker skin is more challenging due to the higher concentration of melanin in the skin as a competing chromophore.

Laser energy is applied to hair follicle, heat destroys follicle and prohibits future growth.

Skin Pen

Microneedling treatment allows for controlled induction of the skin's self-repair mechanism by creating micro-“injuries” in the skin, which triggers new collagen synthesis, yet does not pose the risk of permanent scarring. The result is smoother, firmer and younger looking skin. Microneedleing procedures are preformed in a safe and precise manner with the use of the disposable sterile needle head. The procedure is normally completed within 30 minutes, depending on the required treatment and anatomical site.

Cutting Edge Micro Needling

See the science

How SkinPen Micro Needling Works

The SkinPen procedure temporarily creates hundreds of micro-channels without ablation or introduction of thermal energy.

Collagen Induction Therapy

Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), or micro needling, is the procedure by which the body's natural response to healing is used to increase the amount of extracellular matrix such as collagen or elastin in the skin. These "injuries" are enough to initiate the wound-healing cascade. There are three basic phases to illustrate how micro needling works.

  • Phase One | Inflammation: Activated by piercing the dermal tissue, platelets release cytokines and growth factors which act as signals for the body's immune system. Neutrophils and macrophages cells are sent in to disinfect the wounds, clear the debris, increase the blood supply (a process called angiogenesis), and begin the creation of fresh, new cellular and extracellular materials (the granulation process).

  • Phase Two | Proliferation: In this stage, the fibroblasts (cells that make up much of the dermis and create the extracellular matrix) keratinocytes and epidermal cells continue to divide to populate the areas of damage and secrete growth factors and extracellular matrix, such as elastin and collagen.

  • Phase Three | Remodeling: At this stage, the wound has been replaced with new dermal tissues and the newly formed vasculature is now matured. The collagen in the newly formed tissue is now replaced with the stronger collagen and the tissue contracts to cause a "shrink-wrap" effect of the skin.

The Versatile Design of SkinPen

The depth of the SkinPen needles can be adjusted. This variability allows the SkinPen provider to adjust treatments based on the patient's anatomy (skin thickness) as well as the patient's need.

Reduce the Appearance of Acne Scars

SkinPen's unique microneedling technology improves damaged or aging skin by utilizing the body's healing response. Our bodies have a natural repair and healing process that reacts to injury by producing new collagen and elastin. By initiating this response, SkinPen harnesses the skin rejuvenation process.

The lightweight and ergonomic design of the SkinPen in conjunction with the vertical delivery of the needles allows physicians/skin care providers to use the device to treat hard-to-reach places that other dermal rollers cannot. The SkinPen can specifically target delicate areas around the nose and mouth to assist in new collagen production.

SkinPen uses sterile, disposable needle cartridges that deliver multi-speed and adjustable depths to accommodate all skin types and needs. This specific combination reduces patient downtime.

  • 1. Exhaust port prevents suction and reduces risk of broken capillaries
  • 2. Bio Sleeve technology reduces the risk of cross contamination

Dermaplaning is a simple and safe procedure for exfoliating the epidermis and ridding the skin of fine vellus hair (peach fuzz). It has been used for many years. When patients hear the word dermaplaning, they quickly associate the term with the procedure known as dermabrasion.

Dermaplaning is a simple shaving of the epidermis. Because dermaplaning is a quick procedure with few to no adverse effects, it has quickly gained popularity among cosmetic medical providers across the country. Using a scalpel and a delicate touch, the provider simply abrades the surface of the skin using light feathering strokes.

This is a treatment safe for patients who are pregnant or nursing who want a deep exfoliation. It is also a first choice for patients who have excess vellus hair on the skin. This hair often causes a buildup of dirt and oils in the follicles, so removing the hair gives the patient healthier looking skin. Although merely an old wives’ tale, many patients are often concerned that the hair will grow back heavier and darker after dermaplaning. This is not the case. As long as the hair is superficial vellus hair, it will grow back at the same rate and texture as before the treatment.

Removing epidermal skin also allows products to penetrate more readily into the deeper layers. Physicians may recommend this treatment to prepare the skin for medical procedures such as laser treatments or deep chemical peels. It also may be used by estheticians to prepare the skin for superficial chemical peels or before a cleansing facial. Dermaplaning is most often used on patients with rough, dry skin, or fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment results give a more refined, smooth, “glowing” appearance.
